| Abstract |
本研究課題では、現代英語の深い理解に資するべく、主に近代英語期に生じた様々な言語変化について、その内的・外的要因を探った。英語は社会的には近代期に急速に拡大し、とりわけ19世紀以降、最も有力な国際語として影響力を示してきた。一方、言語的には、そのような社会的な地位の変化に伴う言語外的な諸要因のみならず、純粋に言語内的な諸要因も重なり合う形で、幾多の変化を遂げてきた。その結果が現代英語である。
The present research investigated language-internal and -external factors behind various language changes that took place mainly in the Modern English period. Sociolinguistically, the language saw a rapid expansion during the period, having had a considerable effect on the world as the most influential language especially since the nineteenth century. Linguistically, on the other hand, it went through a large number of changes caused by language-external factors associated with shift in its sociolinguistic position as well as purely language-internal factors. They have resulted in what the English language is today.
