本研究では, おもに2つのテーマについての研究を実施した。1つ目の外国人の経済統合に関する研究では, インターネットモニターから収集したデータを用いて, 日本在住の外国人の経済統合のメカニズムが, 欧米諸国とは異なり, 滞在期間が長くなるほどむしろネイティブとの賃金格差が拡大していく負の経済統合を経験していることを明らかにした。2つ目の第二世代の子供らの教育に関する研究では, 代表制のある統計の個票データを用いて, 第二世代の子供らとネイティブの子供らの学習態度や学力にどのような差が生じているかを明らかにした。
This research tries to analyze the immigrants' "contact zone" which hasn't long been investigated in the field of economics due to the lack of representative dataset.By using the web-monitoring survey, we find out that the conventional assimilationist perspective does not fully explain the immigrant economic success in Japan, indicating that their earnings decline over time, what previous literature refer to as "negative assimilation." By using representative official statistics, we analyze the educational achievement of immigrant children in Japan. The empirical results suggest that once we controlled for the unobserved traits among children, what truly is important is the access to shadow education, or extra-curricular learnings, such as cramming school, private tutoring, and distance-learning.
