| Abstract |
本稿は日本橋界隈の問屋と街の史的研究の一環として,これまで本誌に発表してきた町々に続く「江戸・明治の橘町商業史」である。橘町はその起立から他の町々と異なっていた。そこでまず,この起立,町名と深い係わりを持つ西本願寺別院-浅草御堂について記し,更に起立後の橘町の商業や町の姿を特徽づけた背景を探り,浜町堀と町との関係,特にその西岸の「元浜町」と橘町1・2丁目,また町の北側の「横山町」と橘町3・4丁目との係りあいをみて,橘町というものが,この2つの商業圈の変化のもとで,同じ町内でも,1・2丁目と3・4丁目とがい
