アダム・スミス以来，市場が機能している通常時におけるマクロ経済学は合理的期待 (完全予見) と合理的行動にもとづいて異時点間の最適資源配分を行う動学的経済成長理論である。ケインズ経済学は市場が機能せず，将来予想が不可能な不況期の景気回復政策を提言する静学的理論である。いわゆるニュー・ケインジアンの経済学は，ケインズ経済学ではなく，通常の動学的枠組みにおいても生じる市場の失敗をDSGE モデルにもとづいて解決する，動学的公共経済学である。
Since the time of Adam Smith, macroeconomics in the ordinal situation has seen, markets function according to the dynamic theory of economic growth based on rational (perfect) expectations and behavior. Keynesian economics, however, follows static theory, from which macroeconomic policy for economic recoveries is derived, in the extraordinary situations where markets do not function and future expectations are impossible. This so-called "new Keynesian economics" is not a Keynesian model in the original sense, but is rather public economics based on the dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model, that solves market failures in a dynamic situation.
