Dalian, the hub city of the South Manchuria Railway, accomplished economic development as a port city for the export of three soybean articles after the Russo– Japanese War; thereafter, what type of commercial and industrial city did it become in the 1930s?
This study empirically answers this question, focusing on the dynamics of industrial management during the period of the Sino–Japanese War, particularly emphasizing on Japan sourced capital.
Specifically, this study reveals that heavy and chemical industry management surged in 1938–40, including numerous railway and daily life-related applications.
Moreover, as imports from Japan declined, Dalian produced industrial products in response to industrialization demand, its urban population expansion, and "Manchukuo's" urban demands.
