Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of immediate image feedback to improve a long jump performance. We considered two features of feedback : the running speed curve obtained using a photoelectric cell and the video image of the run-up movement. The participants in the study were eight collegiate track–and-field athletes. Each participant attempted two consecutive long jumps. After the first trial, the participant was given the result of their speed curve data and video image. The coach also provided certain advice to the participant based on this data. Subsequently, the participant made a second attempt. We measured the long jump distance and changed the run-up speed over time. We also captured the digital video image of the run-up movement. We compared the first and second measurements of the jumping distance. According to the results, most of the subjects were able to achieve a better performance in jump distance and speed curve using the feedback data of run-up speed, video image, and advice from their coach for the first trial. It suggested that run-up image the feedback is quite effective in improving long jump performance when it is provided immediately after one attempt.
